Matter is composed of atoms and excluded other energy phenomena such as light or sound. Organisms get their matter from the left dead organic matter, which came from sunlight and other stuff that producers get their energy from. The six basic atoms necessary for life are: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus. Matter moves through an ecosystem through a biogeochemical cycle. This cycles are nitrogen, water, and carbon. Matter differs from energy because enrgy moves only one direction(an its by a food chain).
